March 25th, 2007

Well it's been a long time since I updated this journal, but I guess the time has come to get back into it a bit. So here is an update on my journey. Maybe I'll try to stop by a little more often for a while. Looks like I need the reminders.

It's been said lots of times that diets don't work and what is required is a life change. Well I guess I'm proof that all that is true. And for me at least a big part of that life change has to be daily exercise.

A lot has happened since I last made an entry in this journal. I got married in February of 2004 and changed the priorities in my life a bit. Basically I slowed way down on the exercise and eventually almost completely stopped. Needless to say that began to show up in a bit of weight gain.

I managed to ignore that for a long time but by July of 2006 I had managed to get myself back up to almost 250 lbs. That alone wasn't enough to make me get serious about doing something to fix the problem. But as I was meditating one night I began to monitor my heart rate and when I discovered that the best I could do for a resting heart rate was 85 I decided that that time had come to get back to what I knew would fix the problem.

The next morning I started running again. This time around the weight has been much slower coming off but it is sure and steady. Since I had never given up on lo-carb I didn't have to change much in my diet. And once I started focusing on it for real the weight has come off a bit more consistently. One of the things that has helped me the most is the computer program that can be found at Fitday.com. It is their PC version of the online program that I had used before. I find it much more convenient to keep it current when it is on my on computer.

Also by putting in everything I eat and every bit of exercise I can really get a handle on the supplements I need and the calories I'm eating and burning. I think it is a great piece of work and would recommend it to anyone who is serious about losing weight no matter what diet plan they are on.

In general my health has been good all the way through this process. I am now working on my fifth year without even a cold to worry about. I'm not really sure if that's because of the diet or the supplements I take but it has been wonderful to go for so long a period without any kind of illness. And it's not because I haven't been exposed. Others around me have had colds and flu's but I've managed to miss them all.

So the bottom line is that Since July 13th 2006 I've managed to lose 34 pounds and only have another 35-40 to go to get back to where I want to be. I've always said that if I gained the weight back again I know how to lose it again and I'm back on that mission.
